The simple recipe of Zagorski mlinci containing only flour, salt and water has been transmitted to generations in the families of Hrvatsko Zagorje and has been kept to this day. The distinctive appearance and brittle texture of the Zagorje Mills is due to the specific way of baking the dough on flat or rounded hot plates, which takes only a few minutes. Baking mlinci on such plates is a traditional way of baking "Zagorski mlinci" just as it used to be baked in stoves in Zagorje houses.
